As technology has become an integrated part of our lives, it has made information sharing much easier. Many things that were shrouded in mystery 10 years ago are now a Google-search away. With the ease of locating information and the popularity of Do-It-Yourself websites, many website owners think that SEO is a simple DIY task.
As you consider your options, please take the following ideas into consideration:
- SEO is a constantly changing and evolving industry. Articles and information posted a year ago – or even 6 months ago – may no longer be relevant.
- It’s very easy to do the wrong thing with SEO, and become “de-listed” by Google. This not only halts your SEO efforts, but REMOVES YOU FROM GOOGLE.
- SEO takes consistent time and effort. Results don’t happen overnight, so if you’re doing it yourself, be prepared to be in for the long haul. Dedicate several hours a week to the project, not including time for learning new skills and updating techniques.
- There is NO good “free,” “automatic,” or “set it and forget it” SEO plan. SEO simply doesn’t work that way. Like anything else in your business, it takes monitoring, adjusting, and attention. And if something is “Free,” well… you may just get what you pay for.
If you do decide to proceed on your own with SEO efforts, we suggest finding reputable sites to do extensive research on what the latest SEO techniques are, and how best to implement them. Remember, just because you found it on a forum or message board, doesn’t make it good advice.
Good luck!
